With nearly two decades of experience spanning public relations and environmental and social advocacy, Eric Desatnik has developed a keen ability to work at the intersection of these important and evolving fields. As Senior Director of Public Relations at XPRIZE, he leads global media relations, social media strategy, and community engagement, overseeing an internal team and external agencies.
Recently named to the list of “PR 50: The best public-relations people in the tech industry in 2015” by Business Insider, Eric has successfully secured features in TIME, The Economist, the New York Times, the Financial Times, USA Today, the Guardian, VICE News, BBC, CNN, CBS This Morning, CNBC, and Bloomberg Television, among others.
Prior to joining XPRIZE, Eric spearheaded communications efforts at an international wildlife conservation group, where he oversaw public relations, strategic partnerships, social media, and celebrity ambassador engagement. Eric and his team leveraged over $200 million in placed and earned media on a budget of $1.5 million.
Additionally, alongside Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson, Eric served as Executive Producer of the documentary, The Whale, a “Critic’s Pick” by the New York Times and the Washington Post. He also founded and programmed the Environmental Film Festival at Yale (EFFY), which has since grown to become one of the leading environmental film festivals in the world. Eric’s resume also includes positions at George magazine, Management 360, and BWR Public Relations.
Eric holds a Master of Environmental Management degree from Yale University and is certified as a LEED Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council. He spends his free time mastering escape rooms, reading, and going on road trips.
