Just to make the research enticing, a $10 million prize has been offered to the scientists who can decipher the DNA code from Eberhardt and 100 other centenarians. The funding is provided by the X Prize Foundation and is known as the Archon Genomics X Prize competition.
Eberhardt and his wife learned about the research after their daughter, April, called after seeing a story in Time magazine. They contacted Dr. Thomas Perls, a geriatrics expert at Boston University and have made an appointment to provide the DNA.
