What is a Visioneer?
The world is shaped by Visioneers; those with the courage to think exponentially vs. linearly, to shoot for 10x vs. 10% over the status quo, who are willing to fail because they ultimately believe that failure is not the opposite of success, but defines the parameters for success. These are the individuals that not only have the vision for a better future, but who also have the perseverance and passion to get there. Visioneers are a mix of bold innovator, industry disruptor, change-maker, inventor, garage tinkerer, entrepreneur, and explorer. Visioneers are the center of the XPRIZE universe; we are inspired by them, we aspire to be like them, and the XPRIZE ecosystem is honored to include some of the most prominent Visioneers in the world.
What is the XPRIZE Visioneers Summit?
The XPRIZE Visioneers Summit is not just an event, but a process that is part of the XPRIZE strategic approach to evolve and advance its prize designs. The process culminates at an annual gathering of the XPRIZE ecosystem. During this multi-day event, teams will share their XPRIZE Impact Design Proposals to over 200 attendees (mentors), who will evaluate and critique each team’s proposal. This diverse group of mentors will include prominent corporate CEOs, government leaders, the world’s top innovators, respected philanthropists, and leading entrepreneurs. Collectively, at the Visioneers Summit, this community will ultimately determine which concept(s) will be selected as the next global XPRIZE competition.
This Fall the XPRIZE Visioneers Summit 2016, sponsored by the Roddenberry Foundation, will feature 9 hand-selected international teams of Visioneers. These teams will have spent nearly 6 months designing the next generation of XPRIZEs, aspiring to create disruptive impact across a portfolio of the world’s grandest challenges in the following domains: cancer, ALS, space, empathy, drinking water, nutrition/foods, next generation homes, water desalinization, and others.
XPRIZE, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is the global leader in designing and implementing innovative competition models to solve the world's grandest challenges. XPRIZE utilizes a unique combination of gamification, crowd-sourcing, incentive prize theory, and exponential technologies as a formula to make 10x (vs 10%) impact in the grand challenge domains facing our world.
XPRIZE's philosophy is that – under the right circumstances – igniting rapid experimentation from a variety of diverse lenses is the most efficient and effective method to driving exponential impact and solutions to grand challenges. Active competitions include the $30M Google Lunar XPRIZE, the $15M Global Learning XPRIZE and the $7M Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE presented by Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
