Abundant Clean Energy

Abundant Clean Energy

The Abundant Clean Energy Grand Challenge intends to “build a bridge to abundance for all,” making clean energy globally accessible and thus democratized to the energy poor. The XPRIZE competition will enable new technology adoption, catalyze creativity, and inspire innovative business model/technology solutions that can put clean energy in a real position to compete and beat fossil fuels in efficiency, portability, and cost.

The Grand Challenge will tackle the main market failures, from inefficient public policies to a lack of appropriate funding resources, to finally empower communities around the globe to have access to clean, reliable, and abundant energy sources.

“Energy is life. Whether it is power for light, mobile technology, transportation, manufacturing, or cooking, it is impossible to exist without energy. A lack of reliable access to energy can negatively influence a person’s ability to access education and health resources and to attain economic independence. We must strive to live in a world where sustainable energy for all is an inalienable human right.”

Beyond Carbon Energy was formed with one purpose: to find sources of Abundant Clean Energy. Team members include James J. Farrell, Emma Farr Rawlings, Carl Page, and David Niebauer. We believe that dramatic improvements in the way we produce clean energy will lead to a more abundant, just, and sustainable future. That’s why we are working with XPRIZE to develop this Impact Proposal.

Energy is abundant on our planet in many forms. Energy is abundant in the basic building blocks of our universe. And yet, we still rely on ancient technologies like combustion for the majority of our energy generation. Climate change, pollution, and poverty are all tied to our energy choices. It’s time for a fundamentally new approach: an energy revolution.

“Raised in Brazil, a country with so many challenges, I understood right away that people have to take a stand if they want to see change happen. This passion for social development led me to a very global life, living in five countries on four continents.

What I’ve learned from these experiences is that diversity creates knowledge and innovation, and it changes the way we see the world. Having worked all my life at the intersection of the public and private sectors, I understand how harmony between these sectors is optimal for society.

I believe in a business dynamic that can improve the world’s wealth and reduce inequality through sustainable creative solutions. Also, I understand the power of crowd-funding in achieving these goals as I’m currently part of an institution, RAPS, that uses that same model to strengthen democratic values in Brazil. I could not be more excited about this opportunity to work with XPRIZE experts and tackle ‘impossible’ challenges.”

“Simply stated, I’m passionate about helping people. From leading professional teams to meet high goals to volunteering across the globe, I have always been driven by my desire to contribute to others so that we may collectively build a better world to share.

I believe that I bring an eclectic skill set to the table given my background in mechanical engineering, enterprise software technical support, and general management, so I plan to contribute through technical research and by helping manage our prize development. Finally, I am most excited for meeting fellow dreamers who believe in humanity’s limitless potential and discussing innovating ideas that we can achieve together.”
