Nutritious Abundance

THE VISIONEERS 2016 SUMMIT HAS CONCLUDED. WE APPLAUD ALL OF THE 2016 VISIONEERS TEAMS FOR PRESENTING VIABLE, POTENTIAL XPRIZE CONCEPTS.

TO MAKE FRESH NUTRITIOUS FOOD ULTRA-AFFORDABLE AND UBIQUITOUS

Humanity needs a bridge to a future of shared and sustainable abundance.

Food is the place to start. Hunger, obesity, and micronutrient deficiency impact over half of the global population. At the same time, our current food system is destroying the planet. We need breakthrough innovations to prepare humanity to face the challenges of population growth, accelerated job automation, climate change and a debt-laden economy.

The Nutritious Abundance Visioneers Team is challenging the world to develop solutions that offer our expanding population access to an abundance of fresh, nutritious food while reducing our impact on the environment.

“We can catalyze the power of innovation to ensure that everyone has access to a healthy diet.”

- TEAM NUTRITIOUS ABUNDANCE

Landscape

Our food system is failing people and the planet. Billions are either hungry, overweight, obese, or facing micronutrient deficiencies. The ecological footprint of food and agriculture is massive, generating rainforest deforestation, overfishing, greenhouse gas emissions, groundwater depletion, soil erosion, pollution and animal suffering.

The goal is to accelerate the development of paradigms and solutions that will give rise to the future of food through the power of prizes. The focus is on plant-based foods, particularly fresh fruits and vegetables, which are strongly under-represented in our diets and can have less impact on the environment. Less than 15% of Americans eat the recommended quantities of fruits and vegetables. The World Health Organization estimates that 2.7 million lives could be saved every year if fruit and vegetable consumption were sufficiently increased.

More on Nutritious Abundance

Prize Sponsor

The Nutritious Abundance Collaborative (NAC) is an international group of individuals committed to making a healthy and natural diet accessible to everyone, everywhere. Their desire to tackle the global grand challenges of hunger, obesity and micronutrient deficiencies is the result of being born and raised in countries where their fellow citizens suffer from malnutrition due to lack of access to healthy foods. They believe empowering people with new technologies and catalyzing an abundance of locally grown natural foods will transform global and local food systems to become nourishing, sustainable and healthy for everyone.

For her entire adult life, Liz has been fascinated with finding market-based solutions that enable the masses to live better lives. Initially she focused on global development, studying, living, and working in Kenya, and running a microfinance firm while an undergraduate. After school, she spent several years working as a consultant at Bain & Company. More recently, her work has focused on health and nutrition. She worked at startups focused on mental health and fitness, and volunteered with three nonprofits focusing on nutrition and food education. Liz believes in the power of innovation and technology to improve lives worldwide. She is thrilled to be working on developing an XPRIZE to further that belief.
