Antonio M. Battro

Professor of the Neuro-developmental Study of Cognition

Antonio M. Battro is a professor of neurocognition and education. He received his M.D. from the Medical School at the University of Buenos Aires and his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Paris. He is currently a member of the Fundación Ceibal in Uruguay. He was invited by Jean Piaget to become a member of the Centre International d' Epistémologie Génétique (Geneva, Switzerland). Previous positions include co-founder and president of the Centro de Investigaciones Filosóficas (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Robert Kennedy Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University, Chief Education Officer at OLPC: One Laptop Per Child Foundation, President of IMBES: Mind, Brain and Education Society, and Co-Director of the International School on Mind, Brain and Education at the Ettore Majorana Centre for Scientific Culture (Erice, Italy).

Dr. Battro has written numerous research articles on neurocognitive and moral development and on rehabilitation for disabled children with the use of information and communication technologies. He published several books, among them Piaget: Dictionary of Terms (Pergamon), Half a Brain is Enough(Cambridge) and co-edited at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences The Educated Brain: Essays in Neuroeducation; Neurosciences and the Human Person: New Perspectives on Human Activities; Human Neuroplasticity and Education; Bread and Brain: Education and Poverty.  He was the recipient of the Premio Nacional de Ciencias in Argentina and the Guggenheim, Fulbright and Eisenhower fellowships in the United States. He is a member of the Academia Nacional de Educación, Argentina, and of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.
