Guidelines

The Preliminary Competition Guidelines summarize the high-level requirements and procedures of the competition. These guidelines are based upon extensive research and consultation with dozens of experts and researchers across a wide array of relevant fields.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

XPRIZE competitions are driven by teams of innovative groups and individuals, comprising subject matter experts, enthusiasts, start-ups, student teams, amateurs, and all problem-solvers in between. A winning idea can come from anyone, anywhere.

Note: The competition is void in those countries where prohibited or restricted by U.S. law. XPRIZE reserves the right to limit, or restrict upon notice, participation in the competition to any person or entity at any time for any reason. Teams may withdraw from the competition as set forth in the Competitor Agreement.


HOW TO WIN

The winning team of the $101M XPRIZE Healthspan must demonstrate that their therapeutic treatment restores muscle, cognitive, and immune function by a minimum of 10 years, with a goal of 20 years, in persons aged 65-80 years. The therapeutic treatment must take 1 year or less.

The winning team of the $10M FSHD Bonus Purse must demonstrate that their therapeutic treatment restores muscle function in individuals with stable Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD). The therapeutic treatment must take 1 year or less.


PRIZE CATEGORIES

Competing teams will develop and test therapeutics that restore muscle, cognition, and immune function by a minimum of 10 years with a goal of 20 years and extend healthy life.

Awarding is indexed to improvements in function relative to age-related declines expected over 10-years ($61M), 15-years ($71M), or 20-years ($81M).

$20M in milestone awards, with $10M allocated to each milestone .

Plus an additional $10M to the 1st Place in XPRIZE FSHD Bonus track to restore muscle function.
